nutek Conference

The nutek Conference was a School of Motion project where I was given the task to represent to represent the fictional conference. I was generously offered art direction notes and color recommendations. Below is a walkthrough of my creative process.

Board 01:
The client requested a thinking orb so I thought to make a double layered hexagon with a lot of really strange active space. To me it looks like it has the potential to be dangerous and amazing. It really triggered my imagination. Which I thought went along with the text.

I also had a lot of fun with the text on this one. Since I was writing the word “Imagination” in the context of a science conference I wanted it to have both the playful feeling of childhood and the serious nature of scientific exploration and I feel the font choices captures that. The font is fun and serious, by having heavy contrast in line thickness from the rest of the words below and much further kerning.

Board 02: I imagine we transition by having the thinking orb expand and it shows more pictures of both the conference area and the texts within the thinking orb describe what will be talked about at the conference. We transition to the next image by rotating our perspective clockwise. The lines also reshuffle too.

Board 03: I personally really like how the little pictograms point from the left to the right towards our text of “artificial dynamics” and that they also vary in size. The big goal of this piece was to guide the eye towards the text and I personally can’t find myself looking away. We transition to the next board by having the red space reform to make up the text of the next board. Also the line suffle again.

Board 04: The text from the previous board shrinks into the shape of the nutek logo. The lines draw on and the city reveals itself. The city guides your eye by indirectly pointing at the nutek logo. The tip of each building losely points in the direction of the center.
